Weekend Healthy Snack Program (WHSP)

Weekend Healthy
Snack Program

Addressing weekend hunger among students by providing no-prep snack packs to youths across the city.

The Weekend Healthy Snack Program (WHSP) is a direct response to the hundreds of local students who go hungry over the weekend. Without weekend access to school meal programs, many students turn to unhealthy snacks or they may eat nothing at all. Every Friday, dozens of volunteers help provide over 100 elementary school students with meals for the weekend. The non-perishable snack packs provided through WHSP contain two single servings of breakfast, lunch, and fresh fruit. These meals do not require additional preparation, making them ideal for the hungry student who isn’t yet old enough to cook for him or herself.
