Kings Plaza Mall hosted its annual Caribbean Heritage Month celebration on Wednesday, June 26, honoring six outstanding locals for their contributions to Brooklyn’s Caribbean community and commitment to preserving and promoting Caribbean-American heritage.
The Campaign Against Hunger, HelloFresh, and No Kid Hungry are working together to close the summer hunger gap for kids in Brooklyn. The three organizations distributed 4,000 HelloFresh meals with wholesome, easy-to-follow recipes designed especially for families and kids in mind. This community event was part of a new 13 for 13 Million campaign, a joint initiative from HelloFresh and No Kid Hungry that aims to raise awareness of the issue of childhood food insecurity and its effect on 13 million kids nationwide.

Studio Gang has just released the design for the new Marlboro Agricultural Education Center in Brooklyn, New York. Reimagining a more equitable and inclusive food system, the design transforms a New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) campus into a hub for multigenerational education, job training, and community leadership in urban agriculture. Operated by the nonprofit organization The Campaign Against Hunger (TCAH), the Center seeks to leverage longstanding efforts across the city to enhance food autonomy and security in under served neighborhoods.
Construction broke ground this week in Gravesend, Brooklyn, on an $18.2 million project by Studio Gang that seeks to deliver a more inclusive food system for an underserved community. The Marlboro Agricultural Education Center (MAEC) is a 9,900-square-foot building at Marlboro Houses, a NYCHA campus. The compact two-story structure will host a number of functions: Its ground level space will foster community gatherings and its enclosed rooftop greenhouse will support raising fish and plants.
City officials on Saturday broke ground on the 9,900-square-foot Marlboro Agricultural Education Center (MAEC) at the New York City Housing Authority’s Marlboro Houses in Gravesend. The $18.2 million facility, located on West 11th Street between Avenues W and X, includes a rooftop greenhouse to raise fish and plants, a teaching kitchen, a pantry where greens will be grown on-site and then delivered to residents, and multi-purpose room for programs and workshops.
The Campaign Against Hunger (TCAH) is expanding its vehicle fleet in Brooklyn and Queens, supported by leaders like Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso and Councilwoman Selvena Brooks-Powers. With four Ford Sprinter Cargo Vans and a forthcoming refrigerated truck, TCAH aims to improve food delivery to underserved communities in Brooklyn and Southeastern Queens, known as food and transportation deserts.
The New York City Department of Parks & Recreation (NYC Parks) joined with elected officials, developers, and other city agencies to officially open the peninsula’s new Arverne East Nature Preserve with a ribbon cutting ceremony.
NYC Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue yesterday joined New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) Commissioner Adolfo Carrión Jr., Queens Borough President Donovan Richards, New York State Assemblymember Khaleel Anderson, New York City Councilmember Selvena Brooks-Powers, Managing Director of L+M Development Partners LLC Sara Levenson, and members of the community to celebrate the opening of the new Arverne East Nature Preserve and welcome center.
