BROOKLYN (NEW YORK) –Thursday, October 29, 2020 – Thanks to Verizon and the advocacy of New York State Senator Kevin Parker, the families served by The Campaign Against Hunger can set their tables a little easier.
The Campaign Against Hunger is delighted to share news of a $25,000 donation made by Verizon. This contribution has supported the COVID-19 relief and response efforts of The Campaign Against Hunger. As the pandemic impacts families across New York City, the clients we serve have been hit particularly hard with the consequences of unemployment, food insecurity, and eviction. Donations like these are the only way TCAH can keep our doors open and resources flowing for those who need them most.
“This is not a time when any of us in any of our spheres of endeavors can sit on the sidelines or rest on our past laurels,” said New York State Senator Parker. “It is a time when we have to show our love in action for the many families among us who need additional support due to loss of jobs and incomes. I am happy to have found such a worthy partner in Dr. Samuels and the Campaign Against Hunger. I applaud Verizon for seeing the need to support an organization that is working directly to provide food for families throughout Brooklyn.”
Dr. Melony Samuels, Executive Director and Founder of The Campaign Against Hunger said, “We extend gratitude for the support of Verizon. This donation has enabled us to amplify our efforts to serve those who come to us for help, including families with children, veterans, and seniors, many of whom were first-time visitors as a direct result of the pandemic. Senator Parker has been a tremendous partner and advocate of our work, and we thank him for identifying us as a beneficiary of Verizon’s generosity.”
The Campaign Against Hunger has mobilized to meet the needs of our community by improving access to nutritious food and related resources. Since March, we have served over 330,000 families and provided enough food for over 9 million meals—this is triple the capacity of a typical year for us. We are living through a crisis, and supporters like Verizon and Senator Parker help to equip us in our community’s approach to caring.
