MSNBC Feature: CEO Dr. Melony Samuels Speaks Out on the SNAP Crisis

The Campaign Against Hunger founder Dr. Melony Samuels and former NY congressman Mondaire Jones spoke with MSNBC this weekend about realities on the ground as the SNAP cut crisis deepens.

Non-profits in the emergency food services in NYC have spent the last year trying to recuperate from stagnant funding and dwindling resources, now the government shutdown has exacerbated this struggle and is threatening the critical work that’s needed on the ground to feed hungry New Yorkers.

Organizations like The Campaign Against Hunger cannot easily fill the gap of the 1.8 million SNAP recipients in this city alone, it’s overwhelming an already precarious system and will have long lasting repercussions.

We must urge our elected officials to fight back against letting our most vulnerable neighbors become collateral damage in the political arena, and support each other in the face of this looming crisis.
