BSCAH still in the Rockaways and Coney Island ONE YEAR LATER

2,765,025 meals- after Hurricane Sandy

Today is the one year anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, a devastating blow to families in New York City that no one could have ever imagined.  The rebuilding has been slow and very heart rending to families who have not yet experienced normalcy.

Our ongoing recovery efforts continue as every Tuesdays our mobile truck leaves BSCAH warehouse with food for Far Rockaway and today is no different. It serves as a reminder of how consistent Bed-Stuy Campaign Against Hunger has been in the last 12 months in meeting the need of families who are still trying to put the pieces back together.  On Fridays, we continue to serve Coney Island, a different community, but the needs are the same.

One of our greatest accomplishments is the beautiful 20,000 square foot farm that we have developed in Far Rockaway – an icon of beauty yet a reminder of the resiliency of its residents.  On Wednesdays, children from the local schools participate in our farming and nutrition program.   They also have the opportunity to take home fresh vegetables they have helped to grow and harvest.  Even in the midst of devastation there is still hope!

Your support will help support our programs.  Please donate today.
