Weekend Healthy Snack Program
Addressing weekend hunger among students by providing no-prep snack packs to youths across the city.
Providing Healthy Snacks for NYC Youth
The Weekend Healthy Snack Program (WHSP) was created to address a critical gap faced by hundreds of local students who experience food insecurity over the weekend. When school meal programs pause on Fridays, many students are left without access to nutritious food—often relying on unhealthy snacks or going without meals altogether. Each Friday, dozens of dedicated volunteers help distribute more than 2,600 healthy snack packs to students across New York City, including schools partnered with the Community Health Improvement Program (CHIP), which provides health services, coaching, and student support, and the Administration of Student Services (ACS), which focuses on enhancing the overall student experience and development in educational institutions.

The non-perishable snack packs provided through WHSP contain two single servings of breakfast, lunch, and fresh fruit. These meals do not require additional preparation, making them ideal for the hungry student who isn’t yet old enough to cook for on their own.
