Opportunity Youth Program

The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) has partnered with The Campaign Against Hunger and 29 other community-based organizations to implement the Opportunity Youth: Supported Work Experience program. Opportunity Youth is designed to provide work-readiness training to teens and young adults.

To join TCAH through the Opportunity Youth program, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Be between the ages of 16-24
  • Not be enrolled in school and not employed
  • Live in any of the 5 NYC boroughs

TCAH offers this program in two sections per year, from September to December and from March to June. Over the course of 14 weeks, you would receive:

  • Five hours of work-readiness workshops each week
  • Ten hours of work experience each week, paid at living wage
  • Individual meetings with a case manager, at least once every two weeks

At the end of the 14 weeks, you will have:

  • Written a resume
  • Demonstrated gains in work-readiness skills
  • A job or be working towards getting a job, enrolled in continuing education, or enrolled in occupational training or the military
